Subway – Weight Loss and … Salvation :-) Evangelism 101

In the Hitchhikers Guide to Evangelism – Bill TB suggests that you make a habit of eating @ the same place a few times a week and get to have a relationship with the staff.

While it has worked well for my weight (Subway after all) it also has worked wonders for the Kingdom.

Over the last 3 months – on average 3-4 times a week I have lunch @ Subway in Washington Court House. I have made it a point to schedule myself in line so I have the same person getting my food.

It is to the point now when I walk in – my bread is pulled – the meat heated – and the lettuce on the bread. This gives us about 3 minutes for a quick conversation. I have continuously asked if there was anything I could pray for to this young kid who has been servicing my lunch over the last 3 months.

Just a few weeks ago he said “Glenn I need you to pray for me – I think God hates me … my girlfriend just told me she had an abortion – I was not given a choice in this … but I think God hates me… ”

I took what many would consider to be a gamble – and told him – NO.
I gave him my card and suggested he come by my office so I could teach him how to begin praying to God for himself and I left.

Later that afternoon – on his break – I had a knock on the door.
He prayed and gave his life to Christ.

It was through having the relationship that I was able to be used to help introduce this young man to the God who knows everything about him – who knew him before he was formed in the womb – who Loves and Died for him – so that he could live.

At some point I realized – I needed to let this guy stop riding on the back bumper and give him the chance to stick his thumb out…

He did – and now he is on the Kingdom Bus.

He said something interesting to me Sunday after church -
Glenn – I realize being a Christian is not real unless I “transform”.

Its about a change in me – and not what I think God is about…
