Prosperity Gospel: Treating God like a Slot Machine
Home > Blog, Church > Prosperity Gospel: Treating God like a Slot MachineI had the chance to day to listen to someone preach once again and even now they are still preaching the Prosperity Gospel.
The end of the 1980s was a bad time for TV preachers. One moment, guys like the Jim Bakker (PTC Club) and television’s Jimmy Swaggart seemed bigger than life, superm
en blessed with an uncanny ability to attract followers and money.
The next instant, they were only men — fragile, flawed and the butt of barroom jokes and newspaper cartoons. (kinda like Tiger Woods… now)
Why is it that we continue to see our brothers and sisters fall into this trap and promise that Life is going to be all hunk-dory once you become saved.
Then we the church wonder why people leave the church at an alarming rate of 3000 daily.
Perhaps we are setting the bar to high – Perhaps we are leading people into a misconception about what the Gospel is really about.
Jesus said “Come Follow Me…” He did not say “Let me into your life whenever you feel like it – … I am comfortable with the part time deal…”
So many people think that God has walked away from them – because they did not get their way …
but perhaps – it is just the opposite.
Perhaps we need to assist people in realizing that our wishes are not His wishes, our ways are not His Ways…
God is not a slot machine – where we can go stick in a quarter and get our wish…It should be the other way around…
God should be able to call on us at anytime and ask that we serve… AND get the Servant Response!
